We are pleased to announce the 5th Annual CMS Family Astronomy Day on October 18, 2008. This astronomy day will be extra special. This year it coincides with the George Observatory Astronomy Day. Astronomy Day is open to all family members of the CISD community.

A number of activities are planned throughout the day including: outdoor presentations, Challenger Learning Center simulations, sunspot observations, Moon and deep sky observations, and various lectures including, “How to get started in Astronomy.”
A CISD school bus will be available for transportation. Thanks to Ms. Gray, there will be no charge for the bus this year! Every student must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The park entrance fee for the day and all activities will be $5.00. (Children under 13 will be admitted free.) The school bus will depart Crosby Middle School promptly at 1:00 PM. The school bus will depart the observatory at 9:30 PM sharp. The expected return time to Crosby Middle School will be between 10:30 and 11:00 PM. You can also provide your own transportation and spend the entire day at the Park and observatory.
The Wildlife Center museum and display will be open until 5:00 pm near the observatory. The observatory also has a museum and gift shop that will be open until 9:00 pm.
During daylight hours, a number of nature trails are available at the observatory site. (Don’t forget the bug repellant. It is fall and mosquitoes are still prevalent.)
The bus will stop at the Burger King at the Crabbe River Road turn off to the state park. The Burger King is co-located with a convenience store. Picnic supplies and bug spray are available.
Food, other than snacks, is usually unavailable in the park. Pizza may be available for Astonomy Day. You should pack a lunch and something to drink for the afternoon and evening. Insects can be a problem, insect repellant is recommended. If you are sun sensitive bring sunscreen. We will be out of doors during daylight hours from approximately 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM.
